We first built this bike for Erik Ran in 2021, at that time it received a full mechanical rebuild of the numbers matching R90 engine. In 2024 it came back to us for recommissioning and updates following a gearbox failure. In this guise we have replaced the gas tank with a factory R90 4 gallon unit finished in Avus Black with handprinted pinstripes in Ivory. Erik is a tall guy at 6’7’’ and he likes that curled up riding position only achievable with clip-ons. What we’ve done here is take a uniform set of Woodcraft Clip-Ons and manufactured a set of our proprietary handlebars to fit the factory Woodcraft Mounts, incorporating the internal throttle mechanism, weld-on levers and hidden switch gear. To incorporate the factory headlight brackets, we’ve notched the rear of the headlight bucket to clear the lower triple, allowing it to sit lower and create the clean flush line along the top of the motorcycle.

The donor bike was a 1975 BMW R90. As part of the build, the engine was rebuilt with refreshed cylinder heads, the intake spigots have been upgraded in the style of the R90S to facilitate the solid mount PHM 38 Dellortos. The front end has been upgraded with 21st century parts, including Showa upside down forks, Brembo calipers and rotors. To further aid handling and comfort, we’ve opted for a set of Metzeler’s Semi Slick Race Tec Street tires. This bike lives on the Pacific Coast Highway, carving up mountains and cruising to the beach.

As part of the refresh, we’ve swapped in a 5 speed gearbox with a Kickstart from 1974. The harbor underwent a full rebuild including new bearings and a replacement long 5th gear. The frame has been painted in a high gloss Avus Black with Glasurit paint and is offset by professionally high polished aluminum parts and 12 point Stainless ARP hardware throughout.

On close inspection you’ll notice countless nodes to bikes of the ‘60s with factory style aluminum cable ties, bakelite spark plug caps and cloth braided ignition cables.
